JULIUS JONES
In 1999, a man named Julius Jones was arrested for an allegedly murder of Paul Howell (the victim) in Oklahoma. Howell was killed in a carjacking on the night of July 28 when he and his adult sister, together with her older sisters` daughters pulled into their parents' driveway, according to the documents presented in court. On the documents, his sister described the killer or the murderer as a Black man who she mentioned that the shooter was wearing jeans, a black cap, a white T-shirt, and a red bandana over the killer`s face.
A few days later, Jones was arrested after the authorities found the murder weapon that was wrapped in a red bandana inside his family's home. However, Jones keeps telling everyone specifically on the higher-ups that he is innocent. One of his reasons and alibis is that he was home with his family the night of the murder, as per the clemency petition. Another point to be considered is the red bandana. Jones' clemency petition cites several individuals who said his co-defendant, Christopher Jordan, admitted that he murdered Howell. Then Jordan hid the weapon and bandana he used in killing Howell inside Jones' house, according to Jones.
Despite the countless petitions and reasons given by the side of Jones, the family of the victim do not believe any of these. Jones was sentenced to death since the murder happen. However, Jones is still alive today as there are a lot of people that are supporting, petitioning, and believing that he is innocent (approximately more than 6 million have signed a Change.org petition asking to prevent his execution) and even the famous Kim Kardashian West thinks that he is not guilty. On this day, the murder case is still active and is still on thorough investigation.
KIAN LOYD DELOS SANTOS
In 2017, a 17-year-old teenager named Kian Delos Santos was killed in an anti-drug operation during the regime of President Rodrigo Duterte. While he was being cornered by the policemen, he said the words “Tama na po! May test pa ako bukas!”. These were the last words of Kian Delos Santos who was killed 3 years ago. Police said the teenager displayed a firearm, which pushed them to shoot him. However, the details that the Police officers have said do not match from the CCTV footage. The CCTV showed two men in civilian clothes dragging the teenager across to a basketball court. There were also two (2) small sachets of suspected shabu, and a .45 caliber gun were also recovered at the scene. Hence, the witnesses claimed that the victim was told to run and was handed a gun. The police officers that killed Santos were the three Caloocan police officers that were found guilty of murdering during an anti-drug operation including Police Officer (PO) 3 Arnel Oares, PO1 Jerwin Cruz, and PO1 Jeremias Pereda, to 40-year imprisonment without parole. They were also requested to pay P345,000 pesos to the bereaved family.
CARL ANGELO ARNAIZ
On August 18, Carl Angelo Arnaiz, 19, former University of the Philippines student, was also killed in Caloocan,. Arnaiz was accused of robbing a taxi driver and was shot in a gunfight with police. Arnaiz's body was discovered at a morgue on August 28 by his parents, who had last seen him on August 17, it was also reported that he had severe abrasions and markings on his hands and feet, indicating that he had been cuffed, driven, and severely abused. In addition
Arnaiz has gone missing together with Reynaldo De Guzman, 14y/o, both of them went missing in August of 2017. De Guzman was brutally murdered with 30 stab wounds. The killings of Arnaiz and De Guzman, as well as Kian Loyd delos Santos, 17 years old, have prompted even more criticism at Duterte's violent anti-drug campaign.
SONYA AND FRANK GREGORIO
"My father is a policeman!"
Ever heard of this statement?
On December 20, 2020, an intense wave of fury stirred over the netizens when the case of a mother-and-son in Tarlac was unjustly murdered by a policeman. Over an argument with Frank Gregorio, Police Senior Master Sergeant Jonel Nuezca shot and killed Sonya and Frank Gregorio. The killings were also witnessed by Nuezca's daughter, as per the video. Nuezca is from Paniqui and is formally assigned to Paraaque. Mr Nuezca, who was with his little daughter at the time, has kept quiet about the incident.
Mr Nuezca appears to shoot Ms Gregario in the head as she puts her arms around her kid to prevent him from being taken away.According to Alyssa Calosing a witness claimed they witnessed Mr Nuezca beat Mr Gregario before she began filming, and has said she filmed the footage.
Netizens were angered of the fact that he had "no license to kill". A lot of them are stating that the incident is not an example of an isolated case but a reflection of lawlessness in the Philippines (Gozum, 2020).
